Design Concept Statement
This design proposal intends to save more strays and give them a happy and joyful life. From time to time, there would be news about pet abandonment, strays being abused and some with major health conditions. These issues have only worsened during the implementation of the Movement Control Order. Till the world are free of strays, I wish there will be many animal shelters to help the strays. This centre not only shelters the stray cats and dogs, but it also provides a café where animal lovers can connect with the strays and show their love to them. At the same time, the profit from the café can help to maintain the centre as well.
The concept of this project was inspired by my client - Second Chance’s vision and mission. One of their vision and mission is to rescue and rehome stray and abandoned puppies and dogs. During this process, what they can do is to provide love and care for them before they find a new owner for them. When they found a new owner, the strays will be guided by their new owners to a new chapter of their own. Therefore, the concept of this project is Stepping Into A New Chapter. The animal paw is used to express the concept of Stepping Into A New Chapter. Their paws used to lead them through a lot of journeys may it be a lonely or hurtful journey. By finding them a new loving owner and home of their own, their paws are now lead by their owners to step into a new chapter of their lives and leaving a happy paw print.
The reason behind using yellow and blue as the colour for this project is because in dog and cats’ vision the colour they can see the best is yellow and blue. Other colours to them are in grey tones. Therefore, by using more yellow and blue colours in the centre will make their vision/ world much more colourful. Besides, it also helps them to differentiate objects better. The designs of this centre have many ups and downs which is to replicate the motion of their paws when they are walking or running. Moreover, to represent the strays’ past life of going through many ups and downs before coming to this centre.
